Spotlight on Casein Filler: Your New Best Friend!

Whether you’re diving into a renovation or just want to spruce things up a bit, we’ve got a little something to share with you…Casein Filler! This product is about to become your new best friend for all those repair and decorative needs

What is Casein Filler?

So what exactly is Casein Filler? It’s primarily made from casein, which is a natural milk protein, and white lime. It doesn’t require as much energy to produce since it’s free from titanium dioxide which means it has a smaller carbon footprint than most fillers out there! Plus, it’s versatile enough for both indoor and outdoor use. Feeling creative? You can even jazz it up with our pigments to whip up your very own coloured filler!

What is Casein Filler used for?

If you’ve got some pesky holes or imperfections to tackle before you dive into painting, Casein Filler is the perfect partner in crime! It’s fantastic for prepping your surfaces and works wonderfully with our eco friendly interior paints. But wait, you can also use it for decorative effects, like stencilling or adding a bit of thickness to your paint. This opens a whole new world of application techniques to create texture such as using a trowel or long pile roller.

Using Casein Filler for Decorative Effects

There are two fabulous ways to use Casein Filler for decorative effects:

1.Casein Filler with Pigments:

This option lets you add colour to your filler using our pigments. It’s super simple! Start by soaking your pigment (we recommend doing this overnight) at a ratio of 1 part pigment to 3 parts water. Once that’s ready, mix in your Casein Filler until you hit the sweet spot of a thick pancake batter consistency. For stencilling, just apply the mixture until it’s level with the thickness of your stencil and scrape off the excess with a trowel. Take off the stencil while it’s still wet to reveal your creation!

2. Casein Filler with Claypaint:

Love texture? This is for you! Here’s the scoop: mix 1 part water with 3 parts Casein Filler, adjusting until it’s a smooth paste (no lumps, please!). Then, mix this with any coloured Claypaint. You can experiment with application tools like a trowel or a long pile roller for various effects.

We particularly love the trowel method! Before fully drying pick areas to polish with a clean trowel for a super shiny sheen. Feeling super creative? Start with a light base coat of Claypaint, then layer on a darker colour mixed with Casein Filler using a criss-cross technique. The result? A textured high end finish!
