There are so many reasons to choose a gender neutral nursery design. Whether you aren’t finding out the sex of your baby until birth, you want to break away from the typical gendered colours, or you just prefer gender neutral design. We’ve rounded up five colour schemes to help you decorate the perfect nursery!
Sticking to neutrals can be a life saver when your children are still growing. A neutral colour scheme allows you to easily change the accent colours without needing to repaint the walls as your children get older.
Neutral décor is also an amazing way to give your growing child the opportunity to develop their own style and preferences of colours they like and dislike. As your little one grows they can have the creative freedom to choose accessories and other décor to make their space full of things they love!
You can’t go wrong with a neutral wall colour, especially in a toddlers bedroom! Children can often become overstimulated by colour, so picking a neutral shade like Crocky Road like Louise Roe has for her toddler’s bedroom (left image below) is an amazing way to keep a child’s room fun whilst still incorporating neutrals. Neutrals are also ideal when creating a sensory friendly bedroom, to create a calming environment.
Rainbow colours appeal to lots of babies and young children, and incorporating them into their bedroom is a great way for them to learn colour names. Whether bright or pastel toned, painting the wall white, neutral or light grey allows you add pops of colour through textiles, prints and furniture. Below right, we’ve painted the walls in our light, creamy shade Sandy Castle, with shelves painted in Kissing Gate. It’s a perfect base for colourful accessories!
A perfect way to make your child’s room more exciting is through wall art. There are so many different options when it comes to wall art, so the world (or wall) is your oyster!
A nursery can be the perfect place to unleash a bit of colour into your home. The design below left is by @_ohhellojo_ featuring our gorgeously mellow yellow, Humpty Dumpty and our warm orange, Freckle. But if you are looking to keep more neutral tones throughout your home, @thegreeneyedgirl (below right) has also added a fun touch of Humpty Dumpty against a beautiful backdrop of Feather Pillow.
Why should you have to choose between one or two colours? Why not choose them all! Having a multicoloured room will allow your child to learn which colours they love and which colours they could live without. Below left shows a child’s room painted in ‘Hippo Hooray‘ and our beautiful yellow ‘Daisy Chain‘. Mixed with accents of all different colours, a colourful room is the perfect way to teach your child not to be afraid of colour!
Green is such a popular shade at the moment for any room in the house. Green can be light and soothing, like our softly toned Gregory’s Den, or deep and luxurious like Hobby Wood, which makes it the perfect shade for a gender-neutral bedroom. We love how Joey Kendal Brown has decorated her son’s bedroom (below right) in Secret Room, an earthy shade that would appeal equally to girls and boys décor.
