Most of us have a piece of furniture that’s made from MDF or laminate. From flat pack wardrobes to chairs, tables and even kitchen cabinets, MDF and laminate furniture is so popular because it’s practical and affordable.
If your MDF or laminate furniture is looking a little tired now, or if you’re fed up of plain white, you may have thought about painting it. Read on for our top tips on painting MDF and laminate furniture, it really is so simple!

First things first, if your furniture is starting to de-laminate (that’s when the top surface peels away) use a strong glue to stick it back down.
Next, give the whole piece a light sanding with fine sandpaper. Carefully fill and sand any dents, bashed corners or chipped edges with a wood filler.
After that, apply two coats of our Multi Purpose Primer. This will give your MDF and laminate furniture a really good base and help the paint to stick.

Once you’ve picked your colour, we offer two paint finishes for your furniture:
Eggshell No.17 is perfect for laminate, MDF and melamine surfaces because it’s hardwearing with a wipeable silk finish. It’s water based, certified as Toy Safe and is available in all 72 of our Classic range colours. Simply apply two coats for a practical, beautiful finish.
Alternatively, our Eco Chic is a thick, creamy clay based paint. It covers exceptionally well and is a joy to use! It’s easy to apply and dries to a very flat matt finish, so it needs to be protected. For MDF and laminate we’d suggest using our Furniture Glaze for extra protection.
