REAL HOMES | Before & After: Pandora Maxton’s light-filled kitchen

12th October 2020

Pandora Maxton's light-filled kitchen.

Pandora Maxton is a lifestyle blogger and Instagrammer with a passion for interiors. And if you follow Earthborn on Instagram, you might already know that we’re big fans of Pandora Maxton’s interior style. She recently decided to give her (already beautiful) kitchen a refresh using Earthborn paints to create a bright, light-filled kitchen space.

Pandora’s kitchen was made by a local carpenter around 17 years ago. Because she went for a classic in-frame Shaker style, its timeless appeal has served her well and it still looks great. With dark painted lower cabinets, wooden worktops, a deep red Aga and quirky black and white tiles, it’s not surprising that Pandora’s kitchen was always popular on Instagram. Like us, you might be wondering why she needed to change anything!

But as Pandora explained in this blogpost:

“Like anything, as the years went by, it began to look tired. The wood started rotting near the sink and it was looking shabby. Fresh licks of paint kept the kitchen looking ok but it was time for a bigger change.”

Pandora Maxton's kitchen was upadted with new worktops and paint colours

The original layout of Pandora’s kitchen was practical and the units were still in really good condition. So she decided to create a light, bright kitchen space by updating the walls and cabinets with paint, replacing the worktops and changing the upper section of the walls.

Her builder removed the cooker hood, upper cupboard and worktops along with the existing shelving. He then prepped the area ready for painting. Pandora chose to use our new off-white colour Up Up Away for the walls of her kitchen, opting for our durable Lifestyle emulsion. Part of our new Earth Collection, this chalky neutral is ideal for creating a warm yet light and airy space.

Changing the wooden worktops to beautiful pale marble also lifted the space, so it made sense to switch the colour of the kitchen units to something lighter too. Pandora chose Up Up Away in our Eggshell No.17 finish for the cupboards, giving the kitchen a relaxed yet elegant feel.

She said:

“I was instantly happy and I knew I had made the right decision. The kitchen looked so fresh and much brighter. Up Up Away is such a lovely warm white and I’m so happy with it.”

We think this is a truly beautiful transformation, which proves you don’t need to replace your entire kitchen to give it a whole new look.
