Planning a nursery is perhaps one of the most exciting parts of preparing for a new arrival. Whether you’re newly pregnant or have an older baby or toddler who will soon be moving into their own room, there’s a lot to think about when it comes to nursery décor. Here, we set out our top tips for planning a stylish and baby-safe nursery…
While you might not want to base your nursery décor around a single novelty theme, it certainly helps to have an idea of the type of ‘vibe’ you’d like to create. Pay attention to the rest of your home…. for example, you might be a fan of colour and pattern, which is the perfect basis for a fun, playful nursery. Or if your style is more paired back, a nursery decorated with neutral colours will feel calm and relaxed.
If you don’t know where to start, head to Pinterest or pick up your favourite magazines for inspiration.
No matter what your style, throw too many colours in the mix and your decor plans become a hot mess! When it comes to planning a nursery or children’s bedroom in particular, we’d recommend selecting 1-2 main colours with 2-3 accent colours.

Before jumping ahead with the fun bits of nursery décor, there are a few things you’ll need to make room for. As most nurseries tend to be on the smaller size, it’s even more important to consider practical furniture choices. A chest of drawers that doubles as a changing table, a cot that turns into a toddler bed and storage that extended up the walls are all ways to save space and ensure long-term use.
