Breathe Beautiful: Earthborn Claypaint is now Eurofins GOLD certified

At Earthborn, we believe that beautiful walls shouldn’t come at the cost of your wellbeing. That’s why we’re thrilled to share some exciting news… (if you haven’t already guessed by the title)…

Our signature Claypaint is now officially certified Eurofins Air Comfort GOLD – the highest possible standard for indoor air quality in Europe.

But what does that actually mean for you? Let’s break it down.

What Is Eurofins Air Comfort GOLD?

Eurofins is one of the world’s leading independent testing labs. Their Air Comfort GOLD certification is awarded only to products that meet exceptionally low emissions standards — helping to ensure healthier indoor air.

To put it simply: Earthborn Claypaint was tested in a certified lab and shown to emit zero VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) after just 28 days. Even before this, only trace VOCS were present.

That’s a big deal — and here’s why it matters…

What are VOCs and why should you care?

VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are chemicals that easily evaporate into the air. They’re often found in things like cleaning products, furniture and many conventional paints. You might know them better by their tell tale signs:

That “fresh paint” smell that lingers long after you’ve finished decorating

Headaches or dizziness while painting

Itchy or watery eyes

Breathing difficulties or a feeling of heaviness in the air

Even after the smell has faded, VOCs can continue to pollute your home’s indoor air for weeks, months or longer.

Some people are particularly sensitive to VOCs, including; young children and babies, people with asthma or allergies and pets.

By choosing our Claypaint, you’re not just decorating, you’re helping protect your home’s air quality.

How long do VOCs stay in the air after painting?

This depends on the type of paint used – and it’s longer than many people think.

Standard emulsion paints can continue to release VOCs for up to six months after painting. The stronger the smell, the more emissions are typically present. Opening windows and using an air purifier helps.

Oil based paints, such as high sheen gloss, often contain much higher levels of VOCs and are more likely to cause health issues, especially in poorly ventilated rooms. These can give off VOCs for six months or longer, depending on the paint and ventilation.

In contrast, our Claypaint contains only trace VOCs and emits no detectable VOCs at all after just 28 days.

How do I know if VOCs are in the paint?

It’s not always obvious, but here are some simple ways to tell…

The smell test: That strong, chemical “paint smell” is often a giveaway. No smell doesn’t always mean low VOCs, but strong odours usually point to higher levels.

Read the label: Look for a section that says “VOC content”, “VOC Level” or a VOC logo or stamp.

Earthborn Claypaint is certified with Eurofins Air Comfort GOLD, meaning it meets the strictest limits for VOC emissions, even beyond what’s required by law.
