Bringing joy to Blackpool Victoria Hospital staff

A few months ago we helped transform a space at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice by donating some of our paint. The reveal was truly amazing, and we loved playing a small part in helping Georgina Burnett bring some happiness into the lives of those who needed it. So, when we were approached by Georgina again for help in a much needed staffroom makeover at Blackpool Victoria Hospital – our response? A resounding yes!

Giving back

Providing urgent care in life-threatening emergencies, Blackpool Victoria’s accident and emergency staff work under extreme pressure daily. The last few years have been particularly challenging so Georgina wanted to give something back to the NHS.

During long shifts, staff needed a space to relax and unwind. Their staff room was cold, uninviting and felt very clinical – not offering much of a break from the busy A&E department. Furniture was looking tired and seating was very limited meaning it was a real struggle for staff to get much rest during their shifts.

Creating a sanctuary

Georgina wanted to transform the space into a sanctuary that felt completely separate from the rest of the hospital. To help evoke a homely and comforting feel to the space, Georgina selected our calming grey, Nellie. As this space still needed to suit the needs of the staff and hospital Georgina opted for our durable and washable Eggshell No.17 (important for infection control). Containing virtually no VOC’s meant there would be no nasty smells during the makeover, a crucial point as the space needed to be returned to use as quickly as possible.

Repurposing

Putting her famous crafting skills to use, Georgina decided to turn her hand to a tired looking table and gave it a fresh lick of paint.

After applying our Multi Purpose Primer, Eggshell No.17 was painted on in the same colour as the walls. Using our hard wearing eggshell for furniture upcycling provides a scratch resistant washable surface, which makes this perfect for use by the staff every day.

Light and airy

Working her magic yet again, Georgina managed to create a space that immediately draws you in. A far cry from the original staffroom, the space is now welcoming, light and airy. Lots of greenery has been introduced to help purify the air and let staff feel closer to nature. Furniture has been chosen to provide maximal comfort whilst also offering space to eat, sit and rest. Every detail has been carefully considered to help promote relaxation – including a foot spa!

We just love this transformation and are delighted that we could play a small part again.
