Top Tips from our Colour Experts with trend predictions for 2022

20th December 2021

Cathryn Top tips

As 2021 draws to a close you may have thought once or twice about refreshing your home for the new year ahead. If you are unsure where to start or your looking for some inspiration then we are here to help. We have spoken to our in-house colour experts to help you kick start your year with expert advice, useful hints and tips and some beautiful colours to get ahead of the trends for 2022.

Preparation

When we asked our colour experts what was their number one decorating tip, the most common response was to prep before starting any projects. This could be anything from sanding and masking to calculating paint quantities. Also to make sure you have the right tools before starting any job for example having a short pile roller ready before using our Claypaint. ’…I know this sounds boring but it really does help to save time and give you the best results’ – Cathryn, in house colour expert.

Continuing with the theme of prepping before a project, newbie to Earthborn Michelle, offers advice on the the importance of trying out sample pots first. ‘Sample pots are a fantastic way to get a realistic idea of how a colour can look in your home. Instead of painting a patch on your wall, paint on to an A4 piece of paper and place it in different positions around the room, to get a feel on how the light can change the colour throughout the day’.

Breaking habits of a lifetime

Veteran colour specialist Emily says gone are the days of painting your ceiling brilliant white, try to see your ceiling as another wall. ‘Consider colours that compliment your wall colour, if your walls are painted in greens then try Fresh Air or Seagull as an alternative to white with flattering green undertones’. Alternatively Emily suggests ‘taking your chosen wall colour on to your ceiling, this useful trick can help rooms with low ceilings appear larger.’

Christina colour consultant offers more practical advice on how paint. ‘When painting most people naturally tend to start in the middle of the wall and fill in edges after. Dont do this as this can cause a picture frame effect on your walls. Instead start off by edging first and feathering the edges into the middle of the wall with your brush before going In with your roller’.

Firm Favourites

Asking our colour experts to pick their favourite colours was always going to be difficult, nevertheless we managed to narrow down our Claypaint colours to a few firm favourites.

With the surge of different shades of green colours in 2021 it’s no surprise that Grassy, Gregory’s Den and Hobgoblin made the top of their favourite lists. Nina, colour consultant says ‘The green trend has been popular for a couple of years now due to being versatile and flattering in any room’. With many shades available and no sign of the trend slowing down you’re bound to love these shades of green just as much as we do.

Our colour experts also love keeping it neutral with colours Paw Print and Donkey Ride. Cathryn currently has Donkey Ride in her hallway and loves how the colour can change from a warm beige to a bright beige with grey undertones in lighter rooms. Neutrals never go out of fashion and we can continue to see warm earthy neutrals make their appearance throughout 2022.

Trending for 2022

Finally we asked our colour experts what do they expect to see trending in 2022 when it comes to interior decor. They have predicted a rise in eco conscious consumers with many looking to repurpose, recycle and reuse products. Instead of purchasing furniture brand new, many people will buy second hand and upcycle furniture themselves. If you are considering an upcycle project in the new year then our Eco Chic range partnered with our Furniture Glaze or Furniture Wax would help you to achieve a perfect finish.

We can expect to see a twist on Neutral colours that are mixed with a subtle pop of colour. We are seeing a rise in demand for colours such as Peach Baby, Cupcake and Lily Lily Rose which are all perfect for injecting a bit of colour into your colour schemes.
