Painting with dark colours (and why they’re actually a really bright idea)

12th November 2018

Dark colours in sample pots.

This month at Earthborn we’re really gravitating toward dark colours.

Perhaps it’s the Halloween hangover. The moody evenings – dark by 5pm? Maybe it was Gaga’s devious veiled Armani Privé dress she wore at the Toronto premiere for A Star Is Born… (Yes, we’re still thinking about that) On third thoughts it could be Disney’s latest release of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, a deliciously dark and mystical adaptation of the original ballet…?

Anyway. Whatever the reason, we want dark colour and we want it all over our home. To help you embrace the inky AW18 palette we’ve put together a few styling tips:

Black & Yellow

Yes, it’s a thing. Chalky charcoals are an ideal backdrop for spirited pops of colour – that’s where the yolky yellow comes in. Bring this look home with Daisy Chain and Hidey-Hole.

Dark colour make a showstopping backdrop to bight paint colours. Try pairing Hidey-Hole by Earthborn with yellow Daisy Chain

Dark Romance

Twilight shades partner perfectly with sassy, sultry burgundies. Look to Pinterest for endless berry-toned velvet sofas, perfectly poised against deliciously dark walls. Bring this look home with Can-Can and Hidey-Hole.

Earthborn Can-Can is a deep pinky red paint colour that looks stunning with deep, dark charcoal grey Hidey-Hole

Clean & Simple

You can’t go wrong with this one… Soft neutrals brought to life by accent skirting boards. Bring this look home with Feather Pillow and Trilby.

Dark paint colours can be warm and inviting; try Earthborn Trilby woodwork against walls in pale Feather Pillow
