How to paint a fabric chair using Eco Chic furniture paint

Ready to give your tired old fabric chair a new lease of life, or wanting to update your colour scheme at home? Upcycling furniture isn’t just a fun way to refresh your space – it’s a chic, eco friendly way to transform a room without breaking the bank. Plus, with our Eco Chic furniture paint, you get to do it all while being kind to the planet.

Whether you’re a seasoned DIYer or just dipping your toes into upcycling, this guide will walk you through how to paint a fabric chair with ease. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get started!

Step 1: Vacuum your chair

First things first – clear any dust, hairs, or crumbs from your chair.

You can either give it a good brush or pick up your trusty vacuum cleaner and give it a thorough clean.

A clean surface helps your paint stick beautifully for a flawless finish – who knew cleaning could be so satisfying?

Step 2: Mask off the bits you don’t want painted

Use some masking tape to cover up any parts you don’t want painted, such as metal legs, wood accents, or even nearby walls.

This step may seem small, but it makes a big difference in keeping things neat and professional. Future you will thank you!

Step 3: Lightly dampen the fabric

Before you start painting, lightly spray the fabric with water.

Damping the material makes it easier for the paint to spread evenly and get into all those little fibres. Just a gentle mist is enough – no soaking!

This simple trick will give you a smoother, more even finish.

Step 4: Time to paint

Now for the fun part: painting! First grab your paint brush (psst, our It’s all in the Detailing Brush is perfect for this).

Take your time to work the paint into the fabric, using gentle, sweeping strokes in various directions with your brush.

If your fabric is super absorbent or dries quickly, try painting a mist coat first. Simply dilute Eco Chic paint with 10% water and apply.

Once dry, apply a second full coat in your chosen colour. Remember, patience is key. Be sure to wait for each coat to dry fully before moving on to the next.

Step 5: Cure and enjoy!

Once you’re happy with your masterpiece, give the paint plenty of time to fully cure and avoid heavy use.

The curing process could take several weeks, depending on the fabric.

Then, sit back, relax, and admire your very own eco friendly and beautifully different fabric chair!
